Three Salesianum Seniors Advance In National Mathematics Competition

Gregory Barr '05, Michael DelGrosso '05 and Raymond Zeller '05, seniors at Salesianum School, have qualified for participation in the American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME), after successfully completing the National High School Mathematics Examination (NHSME) given nationwide on February 1st, 2005.

50 Salesianum School students took the NHSME. Mr. Thomas L. Ford of the Salesianum Mathematics Department is the coordinator of the local contest. To advance to the second round of the competition, a student had to score at least 100 points on the NHSME. Greg Barr scored 100.5 points. Michael DelGrosso scores 108.5 points. Ray Zeller scored 166 points. Ray has been the top scorer for Salesianum in each of the last two years. Salesianum's team score of 324.5 is the highest score for the school in the last fifteen years. The AIME will be given in early March to all students in the United States who earned qualifying scores.

Greg is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Stephen and Kathleen Barr of Newark. Michael is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James and Mary Ann DelGrosso of Wilmington. Ray is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stuart and Nancy Zeller of Wilmington. Congratulations to all who participated in this year?s qualifying exam.
