Salesianum Tabs New Baseball, Hockey Coaches; Announces Search for New Lacrosse Coach

Salesianum School has filled its vacant baseball and hockey head coaching positions, and announced it is currently searching for a new varsity lacrosse coach.

Doug Nowell, a 1991 graduate of Salesianum and an assistant baseball coach at the school from 1994-2000, returns to his alma mater after five years of head coaching, the past four at A.I. DuPont High School. Nowell's high school head coaching career began in 2001 with Delcastle Vo-Tech High School.

He succeeds Dennis Walker '76, who was the head baseball coach at Salesianum the past 14 years and stepped down in June.

George Horn, a business teacher at Salesianum, was named the head coach of the varsity hockey team after serving the team the past five years as an assistant to Steve Caputo.

A strong defensive coach as an assistant, Horn has also served extensive coaching and administrative duties with the Delaware Ducks (1994-99), Wilmington Typhoons (2000-02) and was most recently head coach of the Chester County Bantam team in 2002-03.

Salesianum is currently looking to fill its varsity lacrosse coaching position. Harry Walker, a 1992 Salesianum graduate, has taken a teaching position at Charter and will pursue coaching opportunities there. He had been the varsity lacrosse coach at Salesianum since 2001, guiding the team to a 46-35 record and state tournament appearances in 2001, 2002 and 2005. Salesianum School is a Roman Catholic independent secondary school that teaches young men to Live Jesus, guided by the spirituality of Saint Francis de Sales, through a college preparatory education, enabling them to take their place in the world as Salesian gentlemen.
