Salesianum Seeds of Service Day: Oct. 12, 2005

Salesianum School freshmen will participate in the first Seeds of Service Day on Wednesday, October 12, 2005.

The Seeds of Service Day provides an introduction to Salesianum's four-year service program. Each freshman will fulfill his first-year service requirement by participating in this day of service and by writing a reflection paper that integrates Salesian themes with his experience.

The day will conclude with a mass at Salesianum School. The theme of the mass will be "Let us go in peace to love and serve the Lord and one another."

The purposes of this day are:

  1. To provide more than 1200 hours of needed community service
  2. To acquaint our students with some of the many opportunities for service in the local community
  3. To have our students experience the uplifting nature of community service

Each student and parent will receive a reflection and journaling booklet, a T-shirt to identify our students and bus transportation to and from the 16 service agencies. Salesianum has designed this day to help these worthy causes and give our newest Salesians a first-hand experience what it really means to "Live Jesus."

Tom Vresics, Salesianum's Religious Studies Department Chair, is the coordinator of the Seeds of Service Program.

Students will arrive at their designated service area at 9 a.m. and return to Salesianum at 1 p.m. The program takes place at the following locations:

  • Little Sisters of the Poor
  • Food Bank of Delaware
  • Easter Seals of Delaware
  • Ministry of Caring Childcare
  • Sojourners House
  • Clothing Bank of Delaware
  • Emmanuel Dining Room
  • Mary Campbell Center
