Salesianum Wins State Academic ChampionshipsOn Saturday, March 12, 2005, the World Affairs Council Of Wilmington hosted the second annual Worldquest. Academic Worldquest is a new nationwide scholastic game in which high school students compete to demonstrate their knowledge of world affairs, geography, history, culture, economics, current events, sports, national flags, international organizations, and prominent newsmakers. The academic competition was chaired by Mr. Fletcher King of the World Affairs Council of Wilmington. Salesianum School's model UN tema, the 2004 Delaware State Champion in this program, defended their title and won the first place championship trophy. Thus, Salesianum will represent Delaware at the National Academic Worldquest Championship in Washington, DC on April 1-3, 2005. The competition will take place at the headquarters of the Organization Of American States (OAS). The Salesianum team's members are Richard Remedio, Timothy Mercure, Thomas Schrandt and Sean O'Donnel. Fathers John Spellman and John Hurley, OSFS serve as their moderators. Joseph Smith, a national award winning debator on Salesianum's Model UN Team, recently won first place in the Delaware State Championship Oratorical Contest which is sponsored by the American Legion. |
