Salesianum Wins Two First Place Awards at NAIMUN

Georgetown University hosted the 44th Annual North American Invitational Model United Nations Conference (NAIMUN) in Washington, D.C. from February 16th to February 19th, 2006. Three hundred high schools and more than three thousand high school students from the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Nigeria, Northern Ireland, Germany, The Netherlands and Mexico participated in the worldÕs largest Model UN Conference.

In the individual debate competition for the National Model UN Championship, two Salesianum delegations captured two first place gavels. For the third year in a row, Salesianum seniors won first place in the Model UN League of Arab States for their representation of the foreign policy of Algeria. The winners this year were William Rivers and Tyler Emptage.

In the Model General Assembly, freshman Michael McCarthy and sophomore Jeff Dandoy upset a delegation from Mira Costa High School in Los Angeles for the first place gavel representing the United States. Outstanding delegate certificates were also won in the National Academic Debates by Thomas Schrant, Richard Remedio, Joseph Smith, Patrick Burke, William Cammarota, Marco Alberti, and Robert McGurk.

Salesianum School is a Roman Catholic independent secondary school that teaches young men to "Live Jesus", guided by the spirituality of Saint Francis de Sales, through a college preparatory education, enabling them to take their place in the world as Salesian gentlemen.
