Students team with Fr. Judge, North Catholic, capture highest honors

On May 18-20, 2006, the United Nations Association of the USA, in cooperation with the United Nations, hosted The Seventh Annual Global Classrooms Model UN Conference at the UN Headquarters Building in New York City. More than 2,300 students from all over the USA and 17 other Nations (e.g., Germany, Denmark, Israel, Lebanon, India, China, Colombia, Dominican Republic, France, Colombia, Zambia, Spain, Mexico, South Korea, United Kingdom, etc.) participated in this Convention.

Fathers John Hurley and John Spellman, OSFS, led a joint delegation of 51 students from Father Judge, Salesianum and North Catholic to win the World Championship at this most prestigious academic debate on a global level. Since they won a total of 11 individual awards, no other debate team from the 207 school delegation came close to them. As a result, they received the Secretary General's Plaque as the best team in the world. Salesianum students won five out of the eleven awards.

Earning individual honors for Salesianum were seniors Pat Burke, Bill Camarotta, Tyler Emptage, Bill Rivers and Tom Samper; sophomores Marco Alberti, Jeff Dandoy, Cal Greene and Vince Jacono; and freshmen Dan Ciabattoni, Brian Frame and Mike McCarthy. Each received honorable mention awards for their performance at the conference.

Salesianum School is a Roman Catholic independent secondary school that teaches young men to Live Jesus, guided by the spirituality of Saint Francis de Sales, through a college preparatory education, enabling them to take their place in the world as Salesian gentlemen.
