Nine Salesianum Students Recognized For Outstanding Performance At National German ContestNine Salesianum German students were recognized for their strong performances at the 2006 National German Contest at the German Society of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Five students - senior Kyle Davis (Level 4), juniors Steven Foltz and Jeffery Markle (Level 3), and sophomores Mateusz Stankiewicz and Joseph Savage (Level 2) - were finalists for a summer study trip to Germany by scoring above the 90th percentile nationally on their levels. Foltz and Stankiewicz received cash prizes from the Delaware Saengerbund (cq), and Savage received a Schlaraffia Filadelphia (cq) prize as well. Other prize recipients were senior Stephen Marks (Level 4), junior Addison Maier (Level 4), junior Shawn Heiss (Level 3) and sophomore Nicholas Valenti (Level 2). Seven other students received certificates of merit and book prizes for their excellent performance - senior Scott Becker (Level 4), senior Patrick Brown and juniors David McNeeley, Timothy Mueller and Matthew Viereck (Level 3) and sophomore Evan Gamble (Level 2). Awards were presented by the Philadelphia Vicinity and Delaware Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of German. The contest is administered each January, and this year over 23,000 students participated nationwide Salesianum School is a Roman Catholic independent secondary school that teaches young men to "Live Jesus", guided by the spirituality of Saint Francis de Sales, through a college preparatory education, enabling them to take their place in the world as Salesian gentlemen.
