Six Seniors to Volunteer in New Orleans

Salesianum seniors - Rory Alfree, Dan Carunchio, Abe Christian, Doug O'Neill, Matt Rogers Chris Windish - will volunteer over the Easter vacation to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina, working with the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN). Their Salesian service trip will take place from April 17-22 in downtown New Orleans.

ACORN is striving to preserve and rebuild thousands of homes in low-income areas by assembling crews of workers, many of whom are displaced New Orleans residents. The six students, along with two school chaperones, will contribute to the relief efforts in neighborhoods affected by the floods by removing appliances and furniture and gutting the interiors of damaged homes.

The volunteer effort is yet another way in which the Salesianum community strives to reach out and make an impact on its surroundings. As the school's focus on community involvement and service continues to grow, the effort in New Orleans promises to provide a tremendous impact all those involved.

The group would like to thank the generosity of the Salesianum Alumni Association, Student Council, Office of Student Activities and Coca-Cola for their contributions to making this trip possible.

Salesianum School is a Roman Catholic independent secondary school that teaches young men to "Live Jesus", guided by the spirituality of Saint Francis de Sales, through a college preparatory education, enabling them to take their place in the world as Salesian gentlemen.
