Salesianum Model UN Joins Fellow Oblate Schools To Capture World Title For Second Straight Year

Junior Jeffrey Dandoy bestowed Best Position Paper Award

Members of the Salesianum Model United Nations Program, as part of a joint effort with members of the Model United Nations programs at the Oblate-administered Father Judge and North Catholic High Schools (Philadelphia), captured the Secretary-General's Award for best overall performance at the Model United Nations Conference sponsored by the United Nations Association of the United States of American and held from May 17-19 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. This highly competitive, international conference hosts approximately 2,200 student delegates from around the world.

Junior Jeffrey Dandoy - who, along with other delegates, prepared a position paper ahead of the conference - was given the Best Position Paper Award and was commended by conference officials for being "one of the finest position papers ever submitted to (the UN) Conference."

The joint team, called the DeSales Oblate Schools Team, which primarily represented Russia, had seven Salesianum contributors: Dandoy, junior Marco Alberti; sophomores Daniel Ciabattoni, Brian Frame, and Michael McCarthy; and freshmen Andrew Mild and Peter Palena.

McCarthy and Palena won the Best Delegation Award for their particular committee, a key factor in securing the title. Ciabattoni and Frame received Honorable Mention awards for work in their particular committee.

The team was accompanied to New York by Rev. Michael C. Vannicola, OSFS, who serves as Salesianum's Model UN Moderator, and Rev. John J. Hurley, OSFS, who serves as Salesianum's Model UN Coach.

Salesianum School is a Roman Catholic independent secondary school that teaches young men to Live Jesus, guided by the spirituality of Saint Francis de Sales, through a college preparatory education, enabling them to take their place in the world as Salesian gentlemen.
