Salesianum School Selected as Jefferson Awards Leadership School for the State of Delaware

Salesianum School has been selected by the Jefferson Awards for Public Service as a Leadership School for the state of Delaware. Two of the school’s student leaders, juniors Dominic Taglione and Robert Liszkiewicz, will be recognized at the Delaware Jefferson Awards Ceremony at the DuPont Country Club on April 23. In addition, Taglione will represent Salesianum and the state of Delaware at the Jefferson Awards National Ceremony in Washington DC, June 16 – 18.

“As a school community we are extremely honored to be recognized by an organization of this stature,” said Fr. Bill McCandless, OSFS, principal. “The example that both Dominic and Robert set as leaders embodies what we as a school strive to instill in all of our students.”

The Jefferson Awards for Public Service and Deloitte have launched the national youth recognition and reward program. The Jefferson Awards-Deloitte Youth Service Initiative is active in 80 high schools in four communities (San Francisco, Chicago, Central Florida, and Delaware) to encourage high school students to get more involved in volunteering and community service.

In 1972, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Sen. Robert Taft, Jr. and Sam Beard founded the American Institute for Public Service, a 501(c)(3) public foundation, to establish a Nobel Prize for public and community service – The Jefferson Awards. The Jefferson Awards are presented on two levels: national and local. National Award recipients are a “Who’s Who” of outstanding Americans. On the local level, Jefferson Awards recipients are ordinary people who do extraordinary things without the expectation of recognition or reward. To help identify and celebrate these “Unsung Heroes,” the Jefferson Awards has developed a partnership with the media – local newspapers, television, and radio stations.

Salesianum School is a Roman Catholic independent secondary school that teaches young men to Live Jesus, guided by the spirituality of Saint Francis de Sales, through a college preparatory education, enabling them to take their place in the world as Salesian gentlemen.
