Salesianum School will host a town hall meeting on underage drinking,
Wednesday, April 2 at 7 PM, in Centenary Hall. The meeting is free and
open to the public, light refreshments will be served. The keynote speaker
will be Fr. Mark Hushen, OSFS, president of Fr. Martin’s Ashley,
a drug and alcohol treatment center in Maryland. John Downs, a deputy
attorney general fro the state of Delaware, and Dr. Myria Mack-Williams,
a pediatrician at Christiana Care and Children’s Hospital, will
join Fr. Hushen as panelists. For more information please contact Jo-Ann
West, RN, Salesianum school nurse at 302.356.2637, or jawest@salesianum.org.
This program is a result of the surgeon general’s “Call to
Action to Prevent Underage Drinking” especially in light of recent
studies that show the potential of alcohol consumption to trigger biological
changes on the developing adolescent brain, but also long term consequences
such as alcohol poisoning, physical and sexual assaults, injuries and
suicide. What is equally as frightening is that the highest prevalence
of alcohol dependence in any age group is among 18 to 20 year olds according
to the Surgeon General’s report.
Salesianum School is a Roman Catholic independent secondary school that
teaches young men to Live Jesus, guided by the spirituality
of Saint Francis de Sales, through a college preparatory education, enabling
them to take their place in the world as Salesian gentlemen.
