Short Term Service Opportunities Below please find a listing of limited service sites available to you.
These are opportunities that are only available for the times listed below.
If you are interested in any of the sites, please contact the person listed
or Mrs. Ballintyn to sign-up for the opportunity. Once you begin your
service, you must take the Service Booklet with you and complete it as
indicated- the log is completed each time you do service hours; the journal
is your reflection on each time you complete a service activity; and the
supervisor's evaluation must be completed at the conclusion of your service
by the person who supervised you. The opportunities listed below are for
your information but you are responsible to complete the hours and forms.
If you do not complete the forms as indicated above, your service hours
will be declined. RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE: to discover information about the House, please check this link: Ronald McDonald House Lauren's House is a Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care Center (PPECC) in Boothwyn PA that provides licensed care to Medically Dependent/Technology Dependent children. This is an excellent opportunity for you to assist a child in many ways. Please contact Mary Pat Winterhalter at 888-340-9420 to schedule the required interview. Please note this organization would prefer rising Juniors and Seniors to assist in the program. The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers to staff their stations to collect money for the needy during the Christmas Season. If you are interested in being a bell ringer, please contact John at 472-0728. There is a very real need for volunteers to help with the bell ringing collection sites this year. Please consider this service. ST. PAUL'S CHURCH: St. Paul's Church in Wilmington requires assistance with its ESL classes. This is a great opportunity for students to practise their Spanish skills while providing a needed service to the Hispanic population. The contact information for St. Pauls is listed below. Susan N. Booker Nativity Prepatory School is in need of some student
volunteers to help with tutoring. We have changed the evening study time
due to the basketball practice schedule, so our need for volunteers are
as follows: Ingleside Nursing Home has several opportunities available. Please click this link Ingleside. The Wilmington Girl's Inc. program is in need of tutors for the after-school program held at Claymont Community Center. If you are interested in tutoring a Middle School student from 3:45-5:00 during the week, please contact Ms. Covefield at (302) 575-1041 x14 or email her at scovefield@girlsincde.org. RODNEY STREET TENNIS AND TUTORING: Salesianum Students are welcome to tutor and earn Community Service Hours, by calling Harry Shur at 302-472-0735 (W); 302-761-9290 (H) to set up an appointment to meet with along with their parents, at 400 N. Orange Street, at the Salvation Army Community Center. At that time Mr. Shur will go over the program, set up a schedule and they will begin. At the end of the project, Mr. Shur will send a letter to Salesianum, with proof of Community Service Hours and proof of completion. For students interested in working at the Food Bank of Delaware, please note the following information on the hours of operation and availability for the Food Bank: This year the Food Bank will be closed during Winter Break (Dec. 24 – Jan. 2, reopening on Jan. 5). Most dates through the holidays are already booked. There are very few evenings Mon. & Tues. 6pm – 8pm) and Saturdays (10am – 4 pm) available so please call in advance to schedule your time. |
