Course Description
The first two years of Spanish aim to develop in
the student an active, flexible basis in the target language, along with an
appreciation of the cultures of Hispanic people. With the use of modern multimedia,
you will see and hear native speakers in natural settings. The textbook, workbook
and class activities reinforce and enhance your comprehension of basic vocabulary
and grammar structures, as well as your written and oral communication skills.
In Phase 3 more extensive working knowledge
of basic structures is expected, and the student will be evaluated more thoroughly
of oral-aural proficiency.

class each day.
II. Grading
Your quarter grade will consist of test grades,
quiz grades (which will be averaged to equal one test grade) and
homework (which
will equal one test grade). Tests and quizzes may be written and/or oral. Tests
will be announced at least three days
in advance. Oral presentations, essays and projects will be assigned during
the year and will count as a test or a quiz,
depending on the individual assignment.
The seven point grading scale (93-100, A…)
stated in the handbook will be used to determine your quarter grade.
III. Homework

Homework is a vital component for your success
in this class. In order to participate in class you must be prepared. Homework
will be assigned nightly. You should enter your assignment in your planbook
before leaving class. Assignments will be written work and/or materials to
be read and studied. In order to receive credit for your written assignment
it must be 1)complete, 2)neat and legible, 3) in your Spanish notebook labeled
and/or workbook.
IV. Absences
You are responsible for finding out what work
you have missed in the event of your absence. This applies to absences due
to illness as well as those for early dismissal, driver’s education,
guidance appointments, retreats, etc. Quizzes and tests will
be made up no later than one cycle from the day or return to class.
If you are absent only the day before an announced test, you will take
the test with the class.
V. Classroom Behavior
In order to maintain a positive learning
atmosphere in our classroom, you are expected to follow the discipline policies
stated in the Student Handbook. You should be respectful of the teacher,
your classmates, their ideas and their property.
You are expected to be punctual and to come
prepared for each class. Visits to the bathroom should be made between classes.
Distractions such as calling out or talking with someone while the teacher
or another student is talking are not acceptable classroom behavior.
V. Teacher Availability
I am available for help during the school day.
