The Grotto at Salesianum School

Artist rendering of the Salesianum Grotto
Salesianum is celebrating the 150th Anniversary of Our Lady of Lourdes by announcing our intention the building of a Grotto Shrine on the grounds of our school. The shrine will be a place for the faithful to gather, pray, and seek the intercession of the Virgin Mary. Just as Lourdes, France has become a popular pilgrimage site, our Grotto will draw those who seek a place of comfort, hope, and spiritual healing.

This shrine will be dedicated to the students who have died while enrolled at Salesianum School. These young men are forever students of the school and this place of prayer will become a lasting tribute to their memory. Those who visit the shrine will recall that these youth continue to live and to inspire us to a deeper faith, with the help of our Blessed Mother. Additionally, opportunities will be provided at the Grotto to memorialize loved ones, offer lasting prayers of petition, or simply to give thanks for blessings recieved.

Our Vision of the Grotto

One of the most famous representations of the Grotto at Lourdes is the one-seventh scale replica at The University of Norte Dame (pictured on this page). Describing the Grotto itself can be summed up in one word, inspiring. Salesianum hopes to gain the support and interest from the community so that we can erect a shrine that will inspire the faithful on the same magnitude as the shrine at Notre Dame. It has been said to be the next best thing to being in Lourdes, France.

In a world were we find adversity smothering our hopes, we long for the soothing words of a Mother far away. Our Grotto will bring this comfort and hope. The Grotto will be a scenic spot on our campus which affords a perfect picture of serenity and of beauty. It will inspire future generations of students, their families, and all who visit our Grotto Shrine.

Contributions to The Grotto Fund will aid us in making The Salesianum Grotto a reality. Although this is a costly venture, the spiritual value is beyond measure. In addition to the witness of faith for untold numbers of future Pilgrims, it will also provide a lasting legacy to future generations of students who will attend our school in the name of those students who have gone before them. We entrust this project totally to the care and intercession of Mary. Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us!
