Class of 2027 Entrance and Placement Exam (8th Graders)
Salesianum uses the admissions test as the primary tool for evaluating candidates; however, the student’s transcript, teacher recommendations, and legacy status are also important. The school administers the Closed Catholic High School Placement Exam (HSPT). This is a national exam used by 85% of Catholic high schools. Please visit our Educational Support page for entrance exam accommodations for students with special learning needs. For more information on registering for the entrance exam, visit the Admissions Process page.
A submitted application for admission reserves a seat for this exam. Our next testing date is Friday, February 10th, at 8:30 AM.
The exam will be held at Salesianum. Students are permitted to bring a water bottle or a snack if needed.
Calculators are not permitted.
Detailed login information will be sent two days before the exam.
To study for the exam, we recommend using the current edition of the Master the Catholic High Schools Entrance Exams.
Salesianum is pleased to offer testing accommodations for students taking the Entrance and Placement Examination. Necessary documentation will need to be submitted to the Admissions team before taking the exam. Documentation requirements include:
A complete recent psycho-educational evaluation for students with learning differences including ADD/ADHD. The evaluation must have been completed within the last two years. For students with physical limitations, a letter or report from a medical doctor outlining the specific diagnosis, his/her title, and contact information is required.
A copy of the current IEP, 504 Plan, or a letter from the student's current school counselor, teacher, or administrator specifying those accommodations routinely used by the student in his current academic setting.
Documentation may be uploaded using the admission checklist on onCampus. Contact the Admissions Office with any questions.
Seventh graders are invited to take the placement exam in the spring. This is optional and helps students to gain comfort and awareness of the testing format. All students are required to take the Entrance and Placement Exam in 8th grade.
This year the exam is scheduled for Saturday, March 25, 2023. Extended time accommodations will begin at 8 AM, and Standard time will begin at 8:30 AM. The exam will be held on campus. To sign up, complete the registration form by March 23rd.
Students that score on the highest national percentile may qualify for an early candidate scholarship.
Students wishing to prepare for the exam may invest in a high school placement prep book designed for the Closed Catholic High School Exam (HSPT) but should not attempt to cram. The book we recommend is the current edition of the Master the Catholic High Schools Entrance Exams. The best preparation is consistent study dedication and a good night’s sleep.
