ATTIRE GUIDELINES FOR SALESIANUM SENIORS AND THEIR GUESTS

The Hotel DuPont is a formal setting. Students and their dates should conduct themselves appropriately in both behavior and attire. Salesianum seniors are responsible to make their dates aware of the formal nature of the event and to dress appropriately. Dresses must be formal, appropriately fitting, and modest. Salesianum students are required to wear a traditional tuxedo. No extreme colored/textured tuxedos nor shoes are permitted. Salesianum students must wear dress shoes (no sneakers, slippers, nor opened-toed shoes). No bandanas or hats are to be worn. Students should also be clean-shaven and may not wear earrings. If a student has any questions regarding the appropriateness of his tuxedo or his date’s attire, we ask that you speak directly with Mr. Winchell or Mr. DiNardo.

Questions: Contact Mark Winchell, Senior Class Moderator, at mwinchell@salesianum.org.
  • Baccalaureate and Graduation Decorum

\Especially for those who have not been to our Commencement Exercises in the past, please be advised of the following expectations:
    • Our Commencement exercises have always focused on the entire class. For this reason, we discourage the seniors from doing anything to draw attention to themselves at the expense of their classmates.
    • This expectation is also extended to families. Moving the ceremonies outside, and after we have been in lockdown for much of the year, we understand the enthusiasm that families are waiting to unleash! We ask, however, that this be done only at appropriate times when the class is recognized as a group, and not after each name is read. This may be different from other high school and college graduations, but trust us: this has long been school tradition and is part of what makes our ceremony unforgettable. And is especially important this year, so that one family’s celebration does not interfere with another graduate’s moment.
    • In light of the above expectations, noise makers or air horns are explicitly prohibited. Please allow us to introduce the entire class while holding your applause until every senior has been recognized.
    • Note that only one graduating senior receives a diploma at the ceremony itself - when this student shows the diploma to his classmates, THAT is the moment to show your love and enthusiasm, following the lead of the class of 2021!
    • Diplomas will be distributed after the ceremony. Seniors will march back to school at the conclusion of graduation to retrieve diplomas.
  • Graduation Tailgating

A first-ever morning graduation means tailgating after the ceremony will be permitted, subject to a few common sense guidelines:
    • Tailgating is limited to school parking lots only (not stadium, state lots, or street parking). We would ask that those intending to tailgate park in the RED LOT or otherwise known as the "upper" lot (see enclosed maps).
    • No spots may be reserved and no overnight parking is permitted in the school lot Friday night. Please do not arrive prior to 7:00 AM Saturday morning.
    • Parking at school and surrounding areas is limited and we will be challenged to accommodate all students, families, and faculty. Please carpool whenever possible and do not bring multiple cars or elaborate tailgate materials that would take a needed parking space from another family. Help make this work for everyone!
    • Please make sure that any alcohol consumption is in moderation, strictly limited to those of legal age, and in no way whatsoever includes the graduates.
    • We would ask that all lots be cleared by 3:00 PM. Please help our facilities staff by packing up all trash and either taking it with you or disposing of it in the dumpsters near the entrance to the upper lot. If the dumpster are full, please take trash with you.
    • Our hope is that families can relax and visit with one another as the graduates say their goodbyes, enjoy some food, and get pictures in their iconic tuxes. Thank you!
  • Baccalaureate and Graduation Practices

    1. Graduation practice begins promptly at 8:30 AM from Tuesday, May 31 until Thursday, June 2. All seniors must be seated in the Auditorium by the time prayer begins at 8:30 AM, and are to be in full dress code except ties and jackets. Attendance is required.
    2. Seniors who are late for practice or out of dress code will receive a JUG that must be served prior to Commencement Exercises.
    3. Graduation practice will be approximately 3 hours each day. Graduation tickets (they will be customized bracelets) will be distributed on the first day of practice. Tuxedos will be distributed on the last day of practice. NOTE: Tuxedos are worn at both Baccalaureate Mass and at Graduation.
Practice Questions: Contact Mark Winchell at mwinchell@salesianum.org.
  • Baccalaureate Mass

    1. The Commencement Exercises at Salesianum include Baccalaureate Mass and Graduation, and all graduating seniors must be in attendance at both events.
    2. Baccalaureate Mass begins at 6:00 PM in the Birkenheuer Gymnasium on Thursday, June 2. Seniors are to report to the Auditorium by 5:30 PM, wearing Graduation Tuxedo, clean-shaven, and with black dress shoes and black dress socks, and following all other posted guidelines for attire.
    3. There are no tickets for the Baccalaureate Mass; any family and friends are welcome to attend.
Baccalaureate Mass Questions: Contact Zach Ryan at zryan@salesianum.org.
  • Tuxedo Return

Tuxedos should be returned to the Formal Affairs store in Newark or Salesianum on Saturday morning, June 4, by 11:00 AM. It is the student's responsibility (NOT THE SCHOOL'S) to return the tuxedo in good condition and on time to Formal Affairs.
