Amanda Matarese Named as Apple Distinguished Educator for 2023

Amanda Matarese, our French teacher and EdTech Coach, has been accepted into the Apple Distinguished Educator Class of 2023. Amanda is one of only fifty-eight educators in the country and the first French teacher to receive this prestigious honor.

Apple created the Apple Distinguished Educator (ADE) to recognize K-12 and higher education pioneers using Apple technology to transform teaching and learning in powerful ways. The program recognizes educators worldwide using Apple technology to transform teaching and learning. ADEs are leaders committed to sharing their knowledge and expertise with other educators.

In a statement, Amanda expressed her excitement at being accepted into the program. "I am honored to be part of such a talented and dedicated group of educators. The first person I knew with an iPad was my (then 90 year old) grandmother. She instilled in me a forever love of learning and a drive to be better than yesterday. I’m still wrapping my head around this now 13 years later! Thank you to my students for recognizing the power of an iPad, your willingness to always try new approaches, and continuously showcasing your creativity. My own children watch student work in awe as if it were a professional NBA basketball game. It’s incredible and inspiring. I didn’t have that when I was in high school.”

Amanda has a master's in Educational Technology from the University of Delaware and has been teaching at Salesianum for over 8 years. Amanda will have the opportunity to collaborate with other ADEs from around the world, share her expertise with other educators, and develop professional learning opportunities for teachers. She will attend the ADE Institute and receive ongoing professional development and support throughout her tenure as an ADE.
