Senior Service Internships: A Promising New Program Comes to Life

The Mission of our Salesianum Christian Service Program is a comprehensive four-year expectation rooted in the Gospel and principles of Catholic Social Teaching. Our seniors started the first service internship program this year instead of the traditional service requirement. In the fall, students teamed up in groups and selected the type of organization they were interested in helping. Our seniors visited the organization to coordinate with them on a significant project, complete with a preliminary proposal, implementation, and evaluation phases.

During the first two weeks of January, they volunteered to complete their projects at local nonprofits, charitable organizations, and schools. The internships concluded with presentations where students reflected on their experiences. This new program, the first of its kind in the region, was designed to give our seniors real-world experiences and an opportunity to build relationships.
