Students Travel to Washington, D.C. On BRIDGE Trip
Salesianum's third BRIDGE trip was to Washington, D.C. Students volunteered at the Father McKenna Center during their visit, where they cleaned, served meals, and had conversations with the men experiencing homelessness. They also cooked their own meals! Jake Randall '23 said, "I learned how difficult it is for homeless people. Homelessness and the people it affects are not clearly defined, and I realized that each man at the center was not there for the same reason; each had a different story to tell."
They also visited a variety of places. During their tour of the Capital, they spoke with one of Senator Chris Coons staff members to discuss homelessness and what they are doing in the state of Delaware. They went to many college campuses—including George Washington University, Catholic University, Howard University, & American University. In addition, they received a tour from alum Pratik Jacob '21 at Georgetown University. They saw the National Museum of African American History & Culture, ate at Ben’s Chili Bowl—a D.C. staple, and participated in mass at the St. Augustine Catholic Church on Sunday.

Salesianum School
