Summer Service Trips Help DeSales Service Works in Camden, NJ

Service-Learning is a comprehensive four-year expectation at Salesianum that promotes meaningful service opportunities to meet community needs. Students have been working with the Oblate ministry DeSales Service Works in Camden, NJ, all Summer. A collaboration spanning decades, thousands of Salesianum students have seen the struggling "City Invincible" live up to its poetic roots in the hearts of its community.

The transformation of blocks, homes, neighborhoods, and people is undeniable. The most significant change might be within our students. Called to serve those in desperate need, they often discover a profound humility modeled by our patron—how much they can learn from someone experiencing homelessness, racism, or addiction. Moreover, as these students "Live Jesus," they are blessed with the realization of seeing Jesus Alive in others. Even in the most unlikely of places. Truly a city and brotherhood invincible!
