Salesianum’s Lawless House Raises More than $3k for Special Olympics

Salesianum’s Lawless House has named Special Olympics Delaware (SODE) its 2022/2023 beneficiary and recently presented SODE’s Director of Unified Champion Schools, Jon Buzby, with a check for $3,056.85. Students hosted a variety of events, including an “ugly sweater” contest, donating a portion of the popular Silent Night basketball game ticket sales, and also hosting a “for a fee” dress-down day to raise money for SODE and elevate awareness of its important mission. Lawless is one of the eight Salesianum houses. Each house fosters brotherhood within and between grades, runs service projects and fundraisers, and provides leadership opportunities for its members.

Jon Buzby shares, “The efforts of the fine young men at Salesianum to not only raise funds but awareness for our Special Olympics athletes is truly remarkable. As future leaders, it is so important that they have an appreciation and respect for people with disabilities, and the funds raised will allow us to continue to provide further opportunities that support our mission right here in Delaware.”

The mission of Special Olympics Delaware is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for more than 4,200 children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.
