Senior Jack Thompson Receives Eisenhower and Beau Biden Scholarships

Congratulations to senior Jack Thompson, who received two scholarships to attend college! He received the Eisenhower Scholarship for $43,000 for four years from Gettysburg College and the Beau Biden Memorial Silver Award for $5,000. He will double major in Public Policy (B.A.) and Environmental Studies (B.A.).

The Eisenhower Scholarship is Gettysburg College's most selective scholarship—$172,000 for four years of full-time study ($43,000 per year). It is awarded to top-performing applicants within a most challenging curriculum who have demonstrated a high level of civic engagement locally, nationally, and/or internationally. Eisenhower Scholars will take a fall semester First-Year Seminar on a topic related to civic engagement and activism, work with the Center for Public Service, the Eisenhower Institute, and the Garthwait Leadership Center on projects designed for their cohort, and participate in community engagement opportunities during the spring semester.

The Beau Biden Memorial Scholarship Silver Award includes a $5,000 scholarship. The scholarship honors college-bound high school seniors from Delaware "who embody the virtues of Beau Biden, who exhibited qualities of leadership, community, civility, respect, and a strong moral compass." The scholarship honors Beau Biden's memory, a former Delaware attorney general who passed away in 2015 and was established by the I Could Do Great Things Foundation, an independent Delaware-based philanthropy. More details about the Beau Biden Memorial Scholarship are available on the foundation's site.

We are so proud of Jack and know he will do great things in college and beyond!
